Democratic National Convention

Jimmy Carter
Carter, a peanut farmer, was the former Governor of Georgia. Jimmy was the Washington outsider who promised ethical, honest leadership on a moderate and coalitionist Democratic platform.

Mo Udall
Before joining the race, Udall was a House of Representative member for Arizona. A member of the liberal reformist wing of the party, he campaigned for an active federal government and economic fairness.

Jerry Brown
In 1976, Brown was Governor of California and a late entrant to the nomination race. He was youthful, media savvy and unconventional all of which helped him win his home primary in California.

Carter led the contest headed into the convention having won 24 primaries in comparison to Brown's 3 victories and Udall's singular.
